Round counter-flow cooling towers are widely utilized in HVAC and industrial circulating water systems due to their compact design and stable thermal performance. However, the operational efficiency of a cooling tower depends heavily on standardized installation. Improper installation often leads to excessive vibration, uneven water distribution, and a significant drop in cooling capacity. I. Site Selection and Environmental Requirements

The location of the cooling tower is the first step in ensuring heat exchange efficiency. Since round towers feature a 360-degree air intake design, the surrounding ventilation is crucial.

  • Ventilation Space: The distance between the air intake and any obstacles should be at least 1.5 times the tower diameter. For multiple units, the clear distance between towers should be no less than 0.5 times the diameter.
  • Avoid Recirculation: Keep the tower away from chimneys or exhaust vents. Hot air recirculation can increase the inlet wet-bulb temperature, preventing the system from reaching its design cooling target.
  • Environmental Protection: Avoid areas with heavy dust or corrosive gases to prevent accelerated scaling of the infill and corrosion of metal components.

II. Foundation Construction and Leveling

A stable foundation is essential for smooth operation. The load calculation must include the dead weight of the tower, the weight of the water during operation, and wind loads.

  • Absolute Leveling: The foundation platform must be level, with height errors not exceeding ±2mm. In round towers, tilted installation causes uneven gravity-based water distribution, leading to "dry spots" on the infill.
  • Vibration Damping: Install 10-20mm thick rubber damping pads between the tower support legs and the foundation to absorb micro-vibrations and reduce noise.

III. Component Assembly and Fine-Tuning

  1. Casing Sealing: Use high-quality sealant at all FRP casing joints. Bolts should be stainless steel or hot-dip galvanized to prevent leaks and rust.
  2. Rotating Distributor: The distributor pipes must remain horizontal. Adjust the nozzle angle (typically 15 degrees) to utilize water reaction force for drive. There should be no friction when rotated manually.
  3. Fan Alignment: Ensure uniform blade angles and a consistent clearance (10-20mm) between the blade tips and the tower cylinder.

IV. Piping and Electrical Installation

  • Independent Support: All inlet and outlet piping must have independent supports. Never allow the weight of the pipes to rest on the tower connectors.
  • Make-up Water: Adjust the float valve so the water level sits approximately 20mm below the basin rim.
  • Electrical Safety: Ensure the motor junction box is sealed and the equipment is properly grounded according to local codes.
